Review of May 24 Webinar on Immigration Reform
The Senate Judiciary Committee has passed the sprawling 900-page immigration reform bill with its bipartisan vote. It becomes all the more important to know what immigration reform can mean for our communities across the nation. Because of the great effect immigration reform has on our society, Religions for Peace USA offered an Immigration Reform Webinar on May 24th to give a clear picture of the current situations for the “DREAMers” (individuals who meet the general requirements of the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors [DREAM] Act) and the role people of faith can play.
Recent developments in the bill include a measure that would cut “Dreamers” from immigration reform. As this bill continues to develop, it is important that our religious communities and religious leaders across the country are up-to-date on the measures and impacts of this bill to all people in our nation. RFPUSA is committed to educating and equipping religious leaders across the country with advocacy tools to act in their communities on important legislative measures such as immigration reform.
A brief video clip from the webinar is below, giving a preview of what our webinars are attempting to do:
Featuring Jenifer Smyers ofChurch World Service, this webinar is the first in a series of webinars bringing together religious leaders and actors to educate and advocate on urgent current events affecting our communities.
