Forging a Sustainable Path
Embarking on a New Chapter
by Wendy Goldberg, Tri-Faith Initiative’s Interim Executive Director
The Interfaith Observer has been at the forefront of the interfaith movement internationally as a resource for interfaith thought leaders and a celebration of interreligious dialogue, cooperation, and news for nearly a decade. This unique publication is a testament to how interfaith work contributes to interdisciplinary and intersectional efforts to enact meaningful change in our communities and world.
In 2018 Tri-Faith Initiative acquired TIO and today, I am excited to announce that we will be launching The Interfaith Observer (TIO) into a new phase in 2020. Over the next few months, the Tri-Faith staff will be implementing an evaluation and assessment phase as we explore new ways to collect and deliver interfaith stories, resources, and news. We hope to extend The Interfaith Observer to include more diverse and dynamic methods of storytelling and story collection via video, podcasting, and other creative techniques.
Though the TIO website will be under construction over the coming months, we hope you will stay tuned as we plan to launch this new vision for TIO by summer 2020. We’d like to thank Editor Paul Chaffee and Associate Editor Megan Anderson for their years of dedication, service, and care to The Interfaith Observer as we embark on a new chapter to forge a more sustainable path forward. We’d also like to thank the TIO Advisory Board whose members have helped guide it as a resource for people around the world: Elder Don Frew, Philip Goldberg, Elizabeth Dabney Hochman, Vicki Michela Garlock, Laila Lazaar, Chris Alexander, Jane Glazer Rips, and Jan Chaffee.
I’d like to invite you to learn more about Tri-Faith below and to follow us online and via social media as we work to integrate The Interfaith Observer with our work. In the meantime, if you’d have input, thoughts, or new ideas about TIO’s future, please feel encouraged to email me at wgoldberg@trifaith.org (mailto: wgoldberg@trifaith.org).
Thank you for helping us create a brighter, more sustainable future for interfaith relations throughout the world.
In partnership,
Wendy
What is Tri-Faith?
Tri-Faith Initiative is a unique and ambitious project in the field of interfaith relations in its design, scale, and scope. We foster empathy, invite understanding, and advance common action between people of diverse faiths through the shared efforts of a synagogue, church, mosque, and interfaith center intentionally co-located on one 38-acre campus in Omaha, Nebraska. By our very model, Tri-Faith challenges people of faith and goodwill to be conscious and proactive about the assets of faith in the civil life of a religiously pluralistic society. We aim to create a more inclusive culture in which religious pluralism is the social norm. Our campus currently houses Temple Israel, Countryside Community Church, and The American Muslim Institute. A shared Tri-Faith Center is currently under construction and is anticipated to open in July 2020. The Tri-Faith Center will welcome people of all faiths and serve as a hub of collaboration for social events, educational activities, and conference facilities.
