From Your Editor
Dear TIO Readers,
The challenge three years ago, when TIO was just an idea: to create a communication tool that tells the interfaith stories of the world and begins to knit local and global interfaith communities together in new ways.
TIO is still wet behind the ears. But starting its third year of publishing this month, you are one of 6,200 who now get 30 (more or less) interfaith stories each month, in small packages with links and photographs.
At the end of each month, those stories go into TIO’s archive. You can access them several ways. For instance, the new TIO Digital Index Vols. 1 & 2, organized by subject, has links to each of more than 700 stories published in TIO’s first two years. Or you can download past issues (from the homepage), each with its own theme.
A couple hundred writers and a handful of editors – interfaith activists all, young adult leaders, wise elders, academics, clergy, and more – have freely contributed their work to make The Interfaith Observer succeed.
Like everyone everywhere, we’re left with costs. Last week came news that a respected religious internet journal (with 9,000 paying subscribers) was half a million in debt and would probably go bankrupt.
By contrast, to date a few angels have contributed $35,000 to TIO, paying for its design, startup costs, and two years of publication. We run a very lean ship. But our readership has tripled this year. Special Editions are being prepared for two new partners (bringing with them 3,900 new readers), and our email vendor is sending larger bills. In short, it costs about $1,000 a month to keep TIO afloat.
Your Part in This
So I’m asking for your donation. If you’ve read this far, I assume you are committed to healthy interfaith relationships and communication. Your $10 gift is a big plus, and $100 or more would be huge. This isn’t a paid subscription – TIO will always be free, which means, at least in the U.S., your gift is tax-deductible.
Just click the donate button below, to give electronically.
Or write a check to The Interfaith Peace Project with TIO on the memo line, and mail it to 2107 Van Ness Avenue, Suite 300, San Francisco, CA 94109.
Thank you for sharing the vision and helping support it!
